The September Book Drop: 7 New Books by Black Authors on My Radar
September is going to be a BUSY reading month, y'all.
Every time I thought I was finished with this month's Book Drop, I found another book that needed to be on the list. And listen, I am not complaining.
We've got literary fiction, romantasy, horror, messy marriages, monsters, Christmas romance, the return of Queenie, AND an Octavia Butler book coming back into print after nearly 50 years.
And if you missed August's Book Drop, you might want to peek at that one too because apparently the second half of 2026 has decided my TBR doesn't deserve peace.
So yeah. September came to take our money, our Libby holds, and apparently all of our free time.
As always, this ain't every Black book coming out in September. These are just the ones that made me stop and say, ohhhh, what's this?

The Disappearers by Marlon James
A mystery set in 1988 Jamaica, centered on a Black queer story, from Booker Prize-winning author Marlon James?
Okay. You have my attention.
It's literary fiction. It's mystery. It's Jamaica. And it's already been longlisted for the Booker Prize. I need to know what's going on here.
September 8
Queenie Is Working on It by Candice Carty-Williams
QUEENIE IS BACK.
That's it.
That's the reason.
Okay, maybe not the whole reason. But if you read Queenie, you already know why seeing Candice Carty-Williams return to this character is enough to make you stop scrolling.
I need to see what Queenie has been up to.
Wicked Endeavors by Kamilah Cole
A romantasy.
That sounds interesting.
That's literally how this one made the list. 😂
Sometimes that's all it takes.
September 21
Harvest of Heat by Melody Lynch
Okay, this one I found while digging around for September releases, and I immediately said,
"Oh, this is going on the list."
Harvest of Heat is an African American monster romance anthology.
Yes.
MONSTER. ROMANCE.
Do I know exactly what I'm getting myself into here? No.
Is that stopping me?
Also no.
Sometimes I find something weird while researching and decide we're ALL going to know about it.

Do I need a long explanation for this one?
Because The Secret Lives of Church Ladies was GOOD AND MESSY.
And now Deesha Philyaw is giving us church, women, secrets and desire again?
Yeah.

Love Down at Christmas by Aries Skye
Y'all know I loveeeee a Christmas book.
I do not care that it's September.
Once the Christmas books start dropping, Christmas reading season has begun as far as I'm concerned.
That's the reason. That's the entire explanation.
And who knows?
Maybe this one will be good enough to earn a spot on my Holiday Romance Books by Black Authors list.
So... What Are We Reading First?
September did not come to play with us.
We've got Queenie's return, Black horror, romantasy, monster romance, family secrets, church mess and my first excuse of the year to start reading Christmas books.
My poor TBR never stood a chance.
Now tell me: Which September release are you most excited about? And what did I miss?
